Will MS Dhoni play for CSK in IPL 2027? Chennai Super Kings coach made a big revelation

After the end of the IPL 2026 season, the biggest question now echoing in the cricket circles is about the future of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni, popularly known as ‘Thala’, did not play a single match for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026, due to which crores of his fans were left yearning to get a glimpse of him on the field. However, Dhoni was seen practicing vigorously in the nets before every match and was also seen on the Chepauk ground. Now everyone wants to know whether MS Dhoni will play in IPL 2027? Chennai’s bowling coach Eric Simmons has lifted the curtain on this suspense.

Could not play IPL 2026 due to injury
Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Eric Simmons made a big revelation while talking about Dhoni’s chances of playing in the upcoming season. Simmons told that Dhoni could not play last season due to injury. He said, “Dhoni had an injury in his leg, due to which he was facing a lot of difficulty in running and due to this he could not come on the field. However, during practice in the nets, he was batting in the same aggressive style as he used to do earlier.”

Dhoni himself will decide on his return
When Simmons was asked whether Dhoni would be available next year (IPL 2027), he clarified that only Dhoni himself will decide when he is completely ready to play. Simmons further said, “Dhoni always gives priority to the interest of the team above individual achievements. If he feels that he is not fully fit, he will not play. But if he is fit, he will definitely play. Every decision of his will be based on the benefit of the team.”

It is noteworthy that under the captaincy of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the performance of Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 was disappointing and the team was out of the race for the playoffs after winning only six matches in 14 matches.
