Will pensioners not benefit from the 8th Pay Commission? Government broke its silence, truth came out

There was some uneasiness among government employees and pensioners ever since the release of the Terms of Reference of the Eighth Pay Commission. One message after another started going viral on social media in which it was being claimed that the Central Government is increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) of pensioners and ending the retirement benefits. Seeing these messages, lakhs of pensioners got worried and were afraid that their pension might be in danger.

What was written in the viral message?

In the message going viral, it was being said that under the Finance Act 2025, the government has stopped DA hike, pay commission revision and other benefits of retired employees forever. Some messages were even saying that now pensioners will not get even a single penny from the 8th Pay Commission. These messages spread so fast that there was only this discussion everywhere.

PIB fact check opened everyone’s eyes

Now the good news is that PIB Fact Check, the official fact check unit of the government, has declared all these claims to be completely false and fake. PIB has clearly said that neither DA has been stopped, nor DR has been stopped, nor have pension benefits related to pay commission been abolished. The government has appealed to the people to get any information related to pension only from the government website or official sources, otherwise there is no need to worry about rumours.

Pensioners will continue to get these benefits as before

According to PIB, pensioners will still continue to get all the same benefits that they were getting earlier:

  • Whenever the new pay commission comes, pension revision will be done as per its recommendations.
  • Dearness Relief (DR) will continue to increase every year in January and July according to inflation, which means your pension and its related benefits are completely safe.

Where exactly did the confusion come from?

Actually, the root of confusion is a small change in CCS (Pension) Rules 2021. Rule 37 has been amended only for those employees who have been fired from the job due to some serious mistake or misbehavior after being transferred to PSU. This change has happened on the orders of the Supreme Court and it has no impact on common pensioners.

Government gave full guarantee in Parliament

The government has clearly said in the Rajya Sabha that pension will completely come under the purview of the 8th Pay Commission. That means pensioners will also get full benefit of next pay commission.

Talk of merging DA-DR into basic pay?

At present there is no proposal to merge DA and DR into basic salary. Its decision will be taken only after the report of the 8th Pay Commission, which is expected to come by 2027.

In short – all the rumors are false. DA, DR, pension revision all are safe. The government and PIB have repeatedly made it clear that there is no need for pensioners to panic. Just avoid rumors and trust only government information.
