Will petrol be available at Rs 168 a litre? This revelation of Nitin Gadkari created a stir
Nitin Gadkari has made a big revelation in a recent interview. He clearly said that if customers are given the option of 100% pure petrol today, its price can reach around Rs 168 per litre. On the contrary, ethanol mix petrol will not be too heavy on the pockets of the general public. The government buys ethanol from farmers and sugar mills at a price of around Rs 54 to Rs 66 per litre, due to which the total cost of fuel remains low.
Are engines really breaking down?
There is a strong claim on social media that E20 (20% ethanol mix) petrol is damaging the engines of vehicles. On this, Gadkari took a tough stand and said that the government or automobile companies do not have any concrete data to prove this. He clarified that before launching E20 petrol in the country, technical institutes and research agencies have thoroughly tested it on the basis of international standards for many years.
Auto companies and farmers fight each other
The Union Minister said that leading auto companies like Tata, Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Hyundai have already prepared flex-fuel engines, which can run on both 100% ethanol or 100% petrol. Not only this, Bajaj, TVS, Hero and Honda have also prepared their technology. Our farmers have got the biggest benefit from this policy. Maize prices have increased from Rs 1200 to Rs 2800 per quintal, due to which farmers of UP and Bihar have got a direct benefit of about Rs 45,000 crore.
What is India’s objective?
Nitin Gadkari says that his only goal is to free India from dependence on petroleum imports (crude oil imports). Every year we give lakhs of crores of rupees to foreign countries to buy oil. If biofuel is made in India itself, then this money will be used in the development of the country, pollution will reduce and India will be able to achieve its big goal of becoming carbon neutral by the year 2070.
