Will Shadab Khan Return to Pakistan’s T20I XI? Explained

Pakistan’s all-rounder Shadab Khan will be parting from the Sydney Thunder’s squad on January 4, as he was summoned to the national squad after a long time of more than 6 months, because of the Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka which includes a series of three T20Is starting from Wednesday January 7 at Dambulla.

Shadab’s last appearance for the national team was in June against Bangladesh, after which he suffered a shoulder injury, and had to undergo surgery which ruled him out of the Asia Cup. However, due to his consistently strong performances for the Thunder this season, he will be taking his place right back in the playing XI for the SL series and the next T20 World Cup.

Thunder announces Shadab’s exit

In the press release, Thunder made it known that, indeed, the Leggie will be going on the 4th of January to the national duty, but will also come back on the 16th of January for the Sunday Smash at the SCG after their tour of SL is over.

“Shadab has been incredible throughout the season, and we’re very pleased he gets the chance to Pakistan again. It is always a big honour to represent your country. We wish him good luck and are glad to have him back for the most critical part of our season,” Trent Copeland, the General Manager of ST, commented.

Shadab also expressed his eagerness to join the team again for the final stretch of the competition and let the team know that he was grateful for their support during the first part of the tournament.

“So far, it has been to me a very wonderful experience with Thunder, and I have experienced a lot of support during my stay here. I am really looking forward to my return at the season’s end and, if all goes well, being part of the team’s finals run,” Shadab stated in an official press release as the franchise applauded him for his excellent shows.

The 27-year-old cricketer has participated in four matches of the current BBL season so far, taking wickets at an economy of 7.80, which includes a brilliant spell of 4/24 against Brisbane Heat. On the other hand, he has been useful with the bat in the middle order, scoring 100 runs in 3 innings with the best of 31 against the Sydney Sixers.
