Will Suvendu Adhikari be like Smriti Irani? Mamta made a big move in Nandigram, created political uproar in Bengal
West Bengal Assembly Elections: Mamata Banerjee’s party TMC has fielded candidates on 291 seats for the West Bengal Assembly elections. Mamta Banerjee herself will contest elections from Bhawanipur assembly seat. At present she is representing Bhawanipur only. This time he will face a challenge from BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
BJP had also released the list of 144 candidates yesterday i.e. on Monday. In which Suvendu Adhikari has been made the candidate from Nandigram and Bhawanipur. Last time in Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari had defeated Mamata Banerjee by a slight margin. After which Mamta won by contesting the by-election from Bhawanipur seat.
Mamta made a big move against Suvendu
This time, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has adopted such a strategy against Leader of Opposition in Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari which has become a topic of political discussion in the state. TMC has intensified the political stir by giving ticket to former BJP leader and close associate of Shubhendu Adhikari, Pavitra Kar, from Nandigram seat.
Pavitra Kar has been in TMC before also
Pavitra Kar worked at the grassroots level on behalf of Suvendu Adhikari during the last elections in Nandigram assembly constituency. This time joined in the sacred task. TMC said that Kar took this decision due to his anger towards anti-people policies of BJP. The political journey of sacred tax has been quite interesting. He has been a member of TMC before also.
Had joined BJP in 2021
In 2018, Pavitra Kar served as the head of two villages in the Boyal area and had a strong grassroots influence in the area. However, before the 2021 assembly elections, he joined BJP along with Suvendu Adhikari. He is credited with playing an important role in giving BJP electoral lead in this region during the last assembly elections.
Suvendu Adhikari had defeated Mamata
In the 2021 elections, Suvendu Adhikari defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from the Nandigram seat by a slim margin of around 1900 votes. After this, in 2023, Pavitra Kar’s wife won the election on BJP ticket and took the reins of two gram panchayats within the Boyal area.
Why is it important to make the sacred tax a candidate?
BJP is considered stronger in Nandigram-2 block. Pavitra Kar is a resident of this block and remains a well-known face in this area. Even during his previous stint with Trinamool, Kar had a strong hold on the region and was quite popular. This is the reason why the decision to make him a candidate from Nandigram is being considered important.
Should Suvendu Adhikari’s condition be like Smriti?
If Pavitra Kar succeeds in defeating Suvendu Adhikari in the elections this time, then it will be considered a revenge just like the Amethi seat of UP in the Lok Sabha elections. Smriti Irani had defeated the then Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi Lok Sabha seat. However, Rahul became MP by winning from Wayanad Lok Sabha seat.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress fielded KL Sharma as its candidate against Smriti Irani in Amethi and he defeated Smriti Irani. After the election results came, there was a lot of discussion in political circles that Rahul Gandhi has taken a befitting revenge for the 2019 defeat by defeating Smriti Irani from his protégé.
