Will UCC increase division or was the feeling already there?… Mohan Bhagwat said in Dehradun
Tezzbuzz Desk – Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat gave his reaction on the issues related to Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and UGC during an event organized in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. He said that UCC should be seen from the perspective of country’s unity and social harmony.
‘Unity will get support’
Bhagwat said that a uniform civil code can strengthen the unity of the country. India is a country of diversity, where there are different traditions and beliefs, but having common civil laws can increase the feeling of uniformity in the society. He said that if the system is uniform then the tendency of common citizens to move together becomes stronger and the society benefits from it.
He also said that the objective of UCC is to unify the society and from this perspective the union supports it.
emphasis on process
The union chief said that a detailed process was adopted before implementing UCC in Uttarakhand. A proposal was prepared and made public, on which suggestions from lakhs of people were taken. After dialogue and discussion the final proposal was prepared. According to Bhagwat, if a similar transparent process is adopted across the country, better results can be achieved.
What did you say on the UGC issue?
On the question related to UGC, he said that this matter is currently with the Supreme Court. This should be considered in detail only after the court’s decision. He said that one should avoid unnecessary debate on a topic that has not yet come up.
