Will Varun Chakravarthy play in the KKR vs GT clash? Here’s the latest update

Varun Chakravarthy’s availability for Kolkata Knight Riders’s upcoming clash against Gujarat Titans has become a major talking point, with the side fighting to stay alive in the Indian Premier League 2026.

KKR, despite a poor start to their campaign, managed to revive their season in the second half by winning four matches on the trot. That run kept them in the playoff race and briefly restored momentum.

However, their winning streak came to an end against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Raipur, where they failed to defend 193 despite posting a competitive total. Virat Kohli’s century proved decisive, and KKR’s bowling unit looked short of answers without one of their main strike options.

Varun’s availability has therefore become crucial, considering he has been one of the key pillars of KKR’s bowling setup this season.

Abhishek Nayar confirms Varun Chakravarthy injury concern

KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar confirmed after the defeat against RCB that Varun was dealing with a fracture in his left toe, which ruled him out of the previous game.

“We’re always excited to go back home. We have our fans there, and we’re looking to make sure when Varun comes back in the next game, we get our strong bowling side back together and use home conditions to our advantage.”

The comment offered some hope that the Varun Chakravarthy likely to return against GT.

KKR spinner is vital against strong Gujarat Titans’ batting

Varun has played eight matches in IPL 2026 so far and picked up 10 wickets, while maintaining an economy of 8.62.

His mystery spin has often troubled batters in the middle overs, especially on slower surfaces. Against a strong Gujarat batting unit featuring Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, his role could become even more important.

At Eden Gardens, conditions are also expected to assist spin, making his presence a significant boost if declared fit.

KKR playoff hopes hanging by a thread

Kolkata Knight Riders are currently fighting to stay alive in IPL 2026, with just nine points from 11 matches.

A defeat against Gujarat Titans would eliminate them from this year’s tournament. Even a victory, however, will not guarantee qualification with the side still needing other results to go in their favour.

That makes Varun Chakravarthy’s fitness one of the biggest concerns for KKR ahead of one of their most important matches of the season.
