It not only increases immunity but also nourishes the lungs, heart, skin and brain.
More than 30 herbs like Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Giloy, Punarnava, Myrobalan, Dashmool and Brahmi are mixed in Chyawanprash. Ghee, sesame oil, spices like cardamom, cinnamon and pippali and finally honey and sugar are added. Honey is always mixed in cold mixture, because its properties get destroyed when mixed with hot mixture.
Chyawanprash is especially important in winter, because in this season Kapha dosha increases, digestion becomes weak and infections spread easily. Chyawanprash balances the fire inside the body, strengthens the lungs, prevents cold and cough and removes fatigue and dryness. It keeps the body warm and energetic from inside.
