Winter Eye Care: Do you also feel like rubbing your eyes again and again? Know its sure cure
News India Live, Digital Desk: The month of December (December 2025) is going on and the cold is at its peak. We all wear warm clothes to protect ourselves from cold and apply lotion on our dry skin. But have you noticed that our eyes also feel different in this season? Often we feel a burning sensation, grittiness or as if something has gone into the eye. This is called ‘Dry Eye Syndrome’. Dry winter air and use of heaters strip away the natural moisture from our eyes. If you too are rubbing your eyes frequently, stop! Here are some easy and natural methods that will bring back the shine and moisture in your eyes.1. Increase moisture from within (Hydration is Key) We feel less thirsty in winter, so we drink less water. This is the biggest mistake. When there is less water in the body, less tears will be produced in the eyes, which keep the eyes moist. Remedy: Keep drinking lukewarm water by sips throughout the day. Include juicy fruits like orange or seasonal fruits in your diet.2. Use heaters smartly. Room heaters or blowers heat the room but make the air completely dry. It is like poison for your eyes. Remedy: If the heater is running, keep a bowl filled with water in a corner of the room. This will maintain humidity in the air and will not let your eyes dry.3. Don’t forget to ‘Blink More Often’ (Blink More Often) During cold days, we hide under the quilt and use mobile or laptop for hours. During this time we forget to blink. Blinking acts as a ‘wiper’ for the eyes, which spreads moisture. Remedy: Remember the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away and rest your eyes for 20 seconds. Deliberately blink repeatedly.4. Include ‘Omega-3’ in your diet: Very few people know this, but Omega-3 fatty acids keep the ‘oil glands’ active in the eyes, due to which tears do not dry quickly. Remedy: If you are a non-vegetarian then eat fish. And if you are a vegetarian, then make flaxseeds and walnuts a part of your diet. It has magical effect.5. Warm Compress: If you feel very tired and heavy in the eyes, then this remedy is the best. Remedy: Soak a clean cloth in lukewarm water, squeeze it and keep it on your closed eyes for 5-10 minutes. This relieves eye fatigue and opens the glands that produce moisture. A little advice: Whenever you step out of the house, wear sunglasses. This is important not just for style but also to protect you from direct exposure to cold and dry winds. So this winter, take the same care of your eyes as you do your woolen clothes. Your eyes are the way to see the world, don’t let them ‘dry’!
