Dr Kalyani DeshmukhConsultant Dermatologist at Traya, is here to share some insights on why it happens, and how one can reduce the hairfall. Also, we may think of factors that lead to such problems, and if age is one of them. Here is your guide with all the answers to help you manage your hair better this winter season.
Why do we face hair loss during winter?
Dr Kalyani shares that as the winter sets in people start facing issues of hair fall and dandruff. The colder temperatures and lower humidity levels can cause the scalp to become dry, leading to flakiness and itching. This disrupts the hair follicle’s natural growth cycle, making hair more prone to falling out.
The weather changes cause a lot of changes in our bodies due to which we can face hair fall problems, but it is not true that this issue cannot be resolved. With the right tips and techniques, you can easily combat hair fall issues and get nourished, shiny and thick locks all season long.
Tips to combat hair fall in winter
To combat winter hair loss, it’s important to moisturise the scalp regularly with hydrating shampoos or oils and to avoid hot water while washing hair. Wearing a hat can help protect hair from the harsh cold, but choose materials that don’t cause friction or static. Avoiding excessive heat styling is also crucial during winter months, advises Dr Kalyani Deshmukh.
One of the other important things to keep in mind for all year is, that excessive use of heat-styling tools like straighteners, curlers, and blow dryers can cause further damage to already fragile hair. Embrace natural hairstyles or use heat-protectant sprays if styling is necessary. Beware of what you are using on your hair and make sure it suits your scalp well, to avoid any further damage.
Does age play a big role in hair loss?
We asked the expert, as many think of this question as one of the biggest problems for hair fall. Does age play a factor in hair loss during winter or other seasons? To our surprise, the expert suggested that age can indeed play a role in winter hair loss. As we age, hair naturally thins due to changes in hormone levels, making it more vulnerable to seasonal shedding.
This points out that eating the right food, staying fit and keeping your body hydrated are some of the must-do things to keep your scalp healthy and nourishing for a longer duration. Even in your late 40s, you can protect hair fall with the right diet and exercise.
