Demand for complete ban on Chinese Manja raised again in Legislative Council
Serious concern has once again been expressed regarding the illegal sale of Chinese Manjha in Uttar Pradesh and the loss of lives due to its use. Legislative Council members Vijay Bahadur Pathak and Dinesh Kumar Goyal, raising this issue in the House, have demanded a completely effective ban on the sale and purchase of Chinese Manjha. Calling it a matter of public interest and public importance, the members have demanded the government to take a clear decision on it.
On Friday, members in the Legislative Council said that the demand for Chinese Manjha increases due to the tradition of flying kites around Makar Sankranti. Although there is a ban on its sale in the state, it is still widely available in the markets. Chinese Manjha is much sharper and stronger than normal Manjha, which does not break easily and sometimes causes the death of humans as well as animals and birds. Members told that Chinese Manjha proves fatal when it gets entangled in the throat, that is why it is also called “Killer Manjha”. Be it bike or cyclist or pedestrian, it has become a serious danger for everyone.
Incidents of accidents and deaths are continuously being reported from various cities and villages of the state. MLC Vijay Bahadur Pathak said that there are strict legal provisions regarding the sale and use of Chinese Manja. Despite this, its business continues secretly. The district administration and local police conduct raids from time to time, but even then illegal selling is not able to stop.
Legislative Council members said that Chinese Manjha is not only harmful for the environment, but is also proving fatal for human life and animals and birds. Due to this, the danger increases during festivals like Makar Sankranti, in such a situation the government needs to take strict and effective steps. The members have demanded from the government that in view of public interest and public importance, a completely effective ban should be ensured on the sale and purchase of Chinese Manjha and strict action should be taken against the culprits, so that no innocent person or animal or bird is killed in future.
