With the victory, Team India got record breaking prize money, for the first time in history it got the biggest prize till date –
Tezzbuzz Desk- India national cricket team won the title of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating New Zealand national cricket team in a thrilling final match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With this victory, the Indian team became the first team to win this tournament three times.
Not only this, Team India achieved another historic achievement by winning the T20 World Cup in its own home. Before this, no team had succeeded in winning this tournament on its home ground.
Record prize money showered on Team India after becoming champion
After the tournament, the International Cricket Council announced a huge prize money for the winning team. This time the total prize pool of the tournament was kept at around Rs 120 crore.
On becoming champion, the Indian team got prize money of 3 million US dollars i.e. about Rs 27.48 crore. This amount is more than the previous version. Last time the Indian team got a prize of 2.34 million dollars for winning the title.
New Zealand also became rich
Despite losing in the final, the New Zealand team also got a big prize money. As runner-up, the team was given $1.6 million i.e. approximately Rs 14.65 crore.
At the same time, South Africa national cricket team and England national cricket team, the losing teams in the semi-finals, were given an amount of $ 790,000 i.e. about Rs 7.24 crore.
Apart from this, the teams that reached the Super-8 stage but could not make it to the semi-finals got a prize of $ 380,000 (about Rs 3.48 crore). All the teams playing in the group stage were also given guaranteed prize money of $250,000 i.e. approximately Rs 2.29 crore.
India’s strong performance in the final
In the final match, India batted first and played brilliantly. Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson played a stormy innings of 89 runs in 46 balls, due to which Team India scored 255 runs at the loss of 5 wickets. The New Zealand team, which came to chase the target, could not stand in front of the Indian bowlers and was reduced to 159 runs.
Bumrah and Akshar created havoc with the ball
Bowlers also played an important role in India’s victory. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly and took 4 wickets for 15 runs. Whereas spinner Axar Patel completely shook New Zealand’s batting by taking 3 wickets.
With this victory, India not only won the T20 World Cup title but also made another record by becoming the team defending the title for the first time in the history of the tournament.
