In India too, rules have been made for breast milk donation to ensure that the donated milk is safe and effective for the health of the baby. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has issued several guidelines for this. Let us know what that rule is.
Breastmilk Donation Guidelines
1. Health Test: Before donating, women undergo health screening, which includes testing for HIV, hepatitis and other infectious diseases. This is to ensure whether the donated milk is safe for the newborn or not. 2. Age Limit: The age of the woman donating should be between 21 to 35 years. Within this age range, health and milk production of women improves, due to which the quality of milk remains intact. 3. Health status: It is necessary for the donor to be completely physically healthy. If a woman is suffering from any serious illness, she is not considered suitable for milk donation. Pregnant women also fall in this category. 4. Irregularities: Women are prevented from donating milk during menstruation or other health problems. This precaution is taken so that there is no dirt or infection in the milk.
Breastmilk Donation Process
To donate breast milk, women have to apply to the breast milk bank. After this, where health and diet related information is sought. After getting the information, the woman's health checkup is done and she is instructed to express milk in a clean place, so that any kind of infection does not spread. Let us tell you that breast milk donation is very important for those newborns who are not able to get mother's milk. In such a situation, Elyse Ogletree's contribution can inspire other women, so that newborn babies remain healthy.
