Woman masquerades as Batik Air flight attendant, raising safety concerns
Photos shared on social media show Khairun Nisya wearing an outfit resembling Batik Air’s female cabin crew uniform.
A 23-year-old woman from Indonesia attempted to impersonate a Batik Air flight attendant to avoid disappointing her family but was discovered mid-flight, prompting concerns over aviation safety.
In videos that later went viral on X, the woman, identified as Khairun Nisya, is seen wearing an outfit resembling the airline’s female cabin crew uniform.
She also styled her hair in a French twist, a hairstyle commonly worn by flight attendants, Asia One reported.
Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, general manager of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang, told local media that Nisya had a valid boarding pass and was not carrying any prohibited items, allowing her to board the aircraft.
The impersonation was uncovered during the flight when cabin crew members noticed Nisya and questioned her about her assigned duties.
She reportedly failed to respond adequately, prompting further suspicion.
Crew members also observed that the patterns on her “uniform” and the staff pass she carried did not match Batik Air’s official uniforms and credentials.
Aviation security officers at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport were alerted, and Nisya was escorted away for investigation after the aircraft landed.
Investigations by the Indonesian National Police revealed that Nisya had previously failed to secure a job as a flight attendant.
She later said that out of embarrassment, she wore the uniform to make others believe she had been hired.
Nisya has since issued a video apology to Batik Air.
“My name is Khairun Nisya. I am 23 years old, from Palembang. It is true that I flew on Batik Air flight ID 7058 on Jan. 6, 2026, wearing a flight attendant uniform,” she said in the video, as cited by Daily Star.
“I am not a Batik Air cabin crew member. I sincerely apologize to Batik Air and Lion Group.”
Many netizens questioned why she easily boarded the aircraft as a flight attendant without being caught and raised aviation safety concerns.
