A woman in Soc Trang Province in southern Vietnam posted a video on Facebook showing herself counting cash and wearing multiple gold jewelry pieces, allowing two men to locate and rob her.
Police in My Tu District arrested Tran Thanh Do, 37, and Tran Chuc Thanh, 38, on Tuesday on charges of “robbery.”
In connection with the case, Tran Chi Vi, 18, is also accused of knowingly receiving stolen property.
Do and Thanh admitted they came across the woman’s Facebook account, where she posted a video of herself counting money and wearing golden jewelry, prompting them to plot a robbery.
After identifying her location, they broke into her house in Long Hung Commune, My Tu District, at around 1 a.m. on Oct. 10.
At the time, the woman was at home with her son and two young grandchildren. The robbers covered their heads with blankets and curtains, used pepper spray, and knocked her son unconscious with a stun gun.
The duo restrained the woman and stole a bracelet, two sets of gold bangles, five gold rings, earrings, three phones, and VND34 million (US$1,360) in cash.
After the robbery, Thanh handed the stolen items to Vi, who sold them for over VND50 million, which the group then split.
Following investigation, My Tu District Police arrested the robbers and their accomplice on the night of Oct. 13, recovering several stolen items.
