Woman shocked at first date lasagna gift
An Aussie influencer has gone viral over the odd gift given to her on a first date.
Celeste Joan has taken to TikTok to share a story about an unusual first date.
She said that she matched with the man on Hinge, and decided to go on the date after he was so forward in their messages.
“He immediately replied with his number and said, ‘Hey Celeste, I’m deleting this app. I would love to text you instead. You really intrigue me’,” she recalled.
“He booked a place, and said, ‘Great, Tuesday night, 8 p.m., let’s meet there’.”
When she arrived to the date, it was clear that he was even more of a catch than she expected.
“What do I see at the bar next to him?” she said.
“This is lasagne. He had brought lasagne, his homemade lasagne recipe, for me to try at the bar.”
This gift, as bizarre as it may seem, was calling back to one of Joan’s Hinge prompts, which read: “My love language is Nonna’s lasagne.”
“I can’t make this up,” she said.
“This smells incredible.”
Joan even pointed out that the lasagne was made in the correct way – with the sauce made two days prior.
And, she said it tasted good, too.
“I don’t know if I’m going to be able to go on another date,” she said.
“There’s no date that’s ever going to top this.
“I’m not going to tell him how good it is, because he’ll get a big head, but that’s amazing.”
Commenters on the post were obsessed with the video.
“HAHAHAH MARRY THIS MAN,” said one person.
“New date standard unlocked,” another agreed.
“A man who brings homemade food wrapped in foil and Glad Wrap for you to try ON A FIRST DATE is an utter gentleman, very thoughtful, and no expectation of a second date to collect Tupperware. Sounds like a gem lovely lady,” said a third.
But, unfortunately, Joan has since clarified that it wasn’t meant to be.
In an update video posted after the original clip, she opened up about what happened after the date, and said that he ultimately decided they weren’t going to work.
“[He said]‘I had a look at your Instagram, and I wanted to let you know that you’re after a man of God, and I’m not that’,” she said.
“I said to him multiple times on the phone, ‘I respect this so much. I respect you telling me that my values and my goal for a future partner are not what you can be’. I loved it.
“Hands down, the greatest date, the greatest communication. He’s just an all-round great guy.”
