Why did Ravi Kishan say in the discussion on Women’s Reservation Bill – “I sleep touching my wife’s feet”?

Women Reservation Bill 2026Even though the Women’s Reservation Bill could not be passed in the Lok Sabha, some videos of the discussion on it are becoming increasingly viral on social media. Among these, a video of Ravi Kishan and Jagdambika Pal is in the news. In this video, Ravi Kishan is seen saying that he sleeps only after touching his wife’s feet. On this, Jagdambika Pal is also seen answering him in Bhojpuri. Now the question is arising that what is this whole matter and why did Ravi Kishan say this.

Ravi Kishan, while supporting the Women’s Reservation Bill, said that today will be recorded in golden letters in history. He said that he stands in favor of these three bills related to the Constitution. He further said that Mr. Speaker, this is not an election issue as the opposition says… There is an election in UP, there is election in Bengal… This is not an election issue… These people are against the reservation of women… This is not an election issue.

Ravi Kishan became emotional remembering the days of struggle

Recalling his days of struggle, Ravi Kishan said, “I tell the story of my poverty. There was no stove in my village, my house. There was no toilet in my village, my house. I have seen the mothers and sisters of my house… their pain. They used to wait for the darkness of the evening… I felt the pain of that darkness in my house too.” Ravi further said that today women are progressing in every field, “The woman who is flying fighter jets today, who is in the army today, who is in the Gram Panchayat today… is in sports… has brought the Women’s World Cup… then why should these doors stop them?” Meanwhile, Jagdambika Pal interrupted him and said, “Your wife also promotes you.”

What shame in touching wife’s feet?

On this, Ravi Kishan said, “Yes… my wife brings one and a half lakh votes and I touch her feet.” When asked if he touches his wife’s feet, he replied, “Yes, we touch… and everyone should touch… She is Lakshmi, she is the goddess… She supported me in poverty when I was struggling in cinema, so why shouldn’t I touch her feet? She doesn’t allow me to touch them, so I touch her feet only when she is sleeping.” During this time, Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House, could not control himself and said in a humorous manner in Bhojpuri, “Mr. MP, the news has now spread far and wide that you have become a monogamous person.”

By how many votes was the women’s reservation bill defeated?

Actually, a total of 528 MPs were present in the Lok Sabha during the voting held on Friday. To pass the bill, the government needed a majority of 352 votes, but could get only 298 votes in its favor. Whereas the opposition got 230 votes. In this way the government fell 54 votes short of the required number and the Nari Shakti Vandan Act could not be passed.

What will be the impact of not passing the Women’s Reservation Bill?

  • Delimitation was required for implementation.
  • Delimitation happens only after the new census, so it cannot be implemented immediately.
  • The 131st Amendment Bill was brought to speed up this process, so that it can be implemented quickly.
  • The aim of this bill was to start 33% women’s reservation from the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
  • Due to the bill not being passed, women’s reservation will not be implemented in 2029, but in the next census and delimitation, possibly in 2034 or later.
