New Zealand created history by winning the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 title on Sunday. This was New Zealand's first T20 World Cup title, covering both the men's and women's categories. The White Ferns defeated South Africa by 32 runs in Dubai on Sunday. South Africa, playing in its second consecutive final, put New Zealand in to bat and the Sophie Devine-led side performed well under pressure and scored 158/5. Later, the Proteas were restricted to 126/9 and failed to win the title once again.

New Zealand won the prestigious ICC trophy, so let's discuss how much prize money they got.

Earlier this year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced a 134% increase in the prize money for the winner of this edition of the Women's T20 World Cup. Hence, champions New Zealand received a huge cash prize of US$2.34 million (Rs 19.6 crore).

Apart from this, first runner-up South Africa was also given prize money of US$1.17 million (Rs 9.8 crore).

India got so much prize money

In this edition, the ICC also announced that prize money will not be limited to just the winners and runners-up, but will also be given to the semi-finalists and the three best teams in the group stage. As per that rule, semi-finalists Australia and West Indies received US$675,000 (Rs 5.7 crore) each.

Although the group stage rankings are still not confirmed, but with two wins in four matches, Team India is likely to finish at No. 6 and receive the prize money of US$270,000 (Rs 2.25 crore). The three best teams of the group stage will be given equal prize money.

It proved to be a historic Sunday for New Zealand cricket as the White Ferns lifted the ICC trophy just hours after registering their first Test win in India in 36 years.
