Smriti Mandhana’s record breaking year
The year 2025 was going to break many records for the Indian team’s star opener Smriti Mandhana. In one of the most spectacular years in women’s ODI history, Smriti became the first woman to score 1000-plus runs in a calendar year, scoring 1362 runs in 23 ODI innings at an average of 61.9 and a strike rate of 109.92, which included five centuries and five half-centuries. Her five centuries in 2025 are the most by a female batsman in an ODI calendar year. Also, Tazmin Britts and Laura Wolvaardt also scored five centuries each in 2025.

India’s Deepti Sharma emerged as the most effective wicket-taker in the World Cup year, taking 39 wickets in ODIs this year at an average of 27.1 and giving away runs at an economy rate of just 5.12. She was a key factor in India’s title win, where she used her off-spin to break important partnerships in high-run matches. Deepti’s 39 wickets taken in ODIs this year are the most wickets taken by any bowler in any women’s ODI calendar year.
