Women's T20 World Cup 2024: New Zealand first world champion, South Africa chokers again

Women's T20 World Cup 2024: New Zealand has won the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 title for the first time. New Zealand defeated South Africa by 32 runs in the final played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday (October 20).

 

 

What was the target?

South Africa had a target of 159 runs to win, but could only score 126 runs for 9 wickets. New Zealand has won this title for the first time. South Africa's dream of winning the title was shattered once again. Amelia Kerr played an important role in New Zealand's victory. Kerr was an all-rounder, scoring 43 runs and also taking 3 wickets.

African team lost its second consecutive final

The New Zealand team reached the final of the Women's T20 World Cup for the third time. The South African team was playing its second consecutive final, but this time too it faced disappointment. Last year South Africa lost to Australia in the final. Sophie Devine was captaining New Zealand in the final match. The command of the South African team was in the hands of Laura Woolward.

Who performed how in the match?

Chasing the target in the final match, South Africa had a good start. Captain Walward and Tajmin Britts together added 51 runs in 6.5 overs for the first wicket. However, as the opening partnership broke, the South African team came under pressure and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Captain Woolward played the highest innings of 33 runs for the South African team. Britts contributed 17 runs and Chloe Tryon contributed 14 runs. Amelia Kerr and Rosemary Mere took three wickets each for New Zealand.
