8 Teams Qualify for World Cup 2028: England will host the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. The performance of the teams in this World Cup will impact the lineup of the teams for the next Women’s T20 World Cup (T20 World Cup 2028).
Twelve teams are participating in the current T20 World Cup, which have been divided into two groups of six teams each. The top four teams of each group have qualified directly for the next T20 World Cup. Australia, India, South Africa and Bangladesh have qualified from Group A, while England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have qualified from Group B.
Scotland missed after losing to Sri Lanka
Pakistan are fifth in Group A with one win. Despite this, Pakistan has qualified for the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup as they are the hosts of that tournament. Scotland missed out on direct qualification for the next T20 World Cup after losing to Sri Lanka on Friday.
A total of nine teams so far, including host Pakistan. Have qualified for the next Women’s T20 World Cup. The 10th spot will go to the team which is the next highest ranked team in the International T20 ranking table as of the cut-off date of July 6, 2026. As of now, Ireland (ranked ninth) will fill that spot. The remaining two places will be decided through a 10-team global qualifier.

Netherlands will have to play qualifiers
The Netherlands, currently ranked 14th, may have to play qualifiers to secure a spot in the main event. Scotland (currently 11th) and Ireland (currently 9th) could also drop out if their positions in the rankings drop significantly.
The ICC has also decided the selection of teams for the first Women’s Champions Trophy to be held in Sri Lanka next year. The tournament will feature the host nation as well as the top five teams in the T20 rankings as of the cut-off date of July 6. Based on the current rankings, Australia, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa have already confirmed their places.
