Indian relay teams will be in action for their first major international competition of the year at the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, on 2nd and 3rd May.
India has sent a contingent of 22 athletes to the competition, participating in five out of the six relay events. The only team missing is the women’s 4x400m relay.
The women’s 4x100m, men’s 4x100m, and mixed 4x100m relay teams from India will also be competing at the global event for the first time ever.
This event is also a qualifier for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship later this year and the 2027 World Athletics Championships.
Six teams each from the two mixed relay events will qualify for the Ultimate C’ships, while the top 12 from all six events will qualify for the World Championships 2027.
India’s men quarter-milers will be the ones to watch out for, who have had an impressive season so far, with six athletes crossing the sub-46-second mark this year.
The men’s 4x400m team, led by Vishal TK, will now be aiming to break the national record and will be India’s biggest hope to qualify for the Ultimate Championship.
On the other hand, the sprinters like Animesh Kujur and Gurindervir Singh will be hoping to improve their 4x100m national record and will try to qualify for World Championships.
