World champion Samrat Rana’s explosive performance, included in the top-5 of ISSF, created history by defeating the Chinese giant
New Delhi. Indian pistol shooter Samrat Rana’s performance at the World Championships in Cairo last month has been included among the top five best performances of the year by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). 20-year-old shooter Rana, resident of Karnal, Haryana, had created history by winning the gold medal in the men’s 10 meter air pistol event in the World Championship. He is the first Indian to win a senior individual world title in this event. This talented shooter had also won the mixed team silver medal in her favorite event in the same competition with Isha Singh.
Announcing the top five performances of the season, the ISSF said, “This season, Samrat Rana, the only player to defeat Hu Kai (China), maintained his composure under pressure and pulled off a turnaround that no one expected.” The world body of shooting said, “20-year-old Rana had a slight lead in the men’s 10m air pistol final at the ISSF World Championships and Hu also gave him a tough fight, but the Chinese player took the lead with six shots remaining. Made it.”
ISSF wrote, “Rana kept himself in the competition by scoring 10.9 in two consecutive series. He moved ahead of Hu, but fell behind again by 0.1 before the last two shots. Rana took the lead by scoring 10.2 and 10.6 and was ultimately successful in winning. Great performance.” Hu Kai, who won the gold medal at the World Cup held in Lima earlier this year, has been ranked among the top five performers of the ISSF.
