World Consumer Rights Day: Be it a toffee worth Rs 1 or a car worth lakhs; If a shopkeeper cheats you, these rights will provide you with justice!

Consumer Rights In India: While buying goods in the market or availing any service, we often assume that whatever the shopkeeper is saying is correct. But in reality, under Indian law, the consumer is considered the king of the market.

We are all consumers in some way or the other. From morning milk packets to evening medicines, we have some rights reserved for every small and big purchase. Often, due to lack of information, we become victims of fraud and consider it a small matter and remain silent. But in the eyes of law, fraud on Re 1 toffee is as serious as a defect in a car worth lakhs. The purpose of World Consumer Rights Day celebrated on 15th March is to make you realize this power of yours.

right to security

This is the most basic right. Under this, the consumer has the right to be protected against the marketing of such goods or services which may be dangerous to life and property. For example, you can raise your voice against faulty electrical equipment or expired medicines.

right to Information

The customer has the right to get complete information about the quality, quantity, purity, standard and price of the goods. This is why it is mandatory to write MRP, date of manufacture and expiry on every packet.

right to choose

No shopkeeper can force you to buy any particular brand of goods. It is your legal right to choose the goods of your choice in variety and at competitive prices.
