According to the information given in the report, 65 percent of the country’s wealth is owned by only the richest 10 percent of the people. On the other hand, the bottom 50 percent own only 6.4 percent of the wealth. The report has been prepared by economists Lucas Chancel, Ricardo Gomez-Carrera, Rowaidha Mosharif and Thomas Piketty.

Only 15% income of 50% people

According to the report, the average in India per capita annual income is around 6,200 euros and the average wealth is around 28,000 euros (in PPP terms). Women’s participation in work is very low. Only 15.7 percent women are involved in employment or work. There has been no significant improvement in this in the last 10 years. The report shows that in 1980, the majority of India’s population was in the middle class, that is, in the middle part of the national income.

But now this population has slipped into the bottom 50 percent. The income gap between the top 10 percent and the bottom 50 percent has increased slightly between 2014 and 2024. This difference increased from 38 percent to 3 8.2 percent.
