Singapore’s Changi Airport, crowned the world’s best airport, handled 67.7 million passengers in 2024, reaching 99.1% of its pre-Covid levels in 2019.
The passenger number marked a 14.8% increase compared to the previous year, The Straits Times reported, citing data from Changi Airport Group.
China emerged as the airport’s largest market in 2024 by passenger traffic, rising from sixth place in 2023.
Industry experts attributed this surge to the introduction of a 30-day mutual visa-free travel agreement between Singapore and China in February 2024, along with frequent air services connecting the two countries, Singapore Business Review reported.
Following China were Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia, and Thailand as Changi’s top markets by passenger traffic.
Changi Airport was named the world’s best airport in a survey by The Telegraph last year, outperforming more than 60 other contenders. The ranking assessed the world’s 50 busiest airports in 2023, along with the 20 busiest in Europe, based on over 30 criteria such as connectivity, reliability, practicality, and passenger experience.
Renowned for its cutting-edge facilities, Changi offers automated check-ins and biometric authentication to enhance immigration processes. It recently became one of the first airports globally to introduce passport-free immigration clearance across all terminals, enabling travelers to clear immigration in as little as 10 seconds.
