World’s longest internet blackout in Iran: Net closed for 1000 hours
Tehran, 11 April 2026: The internet crisis in Iran has now reached a very serious level. According to the latest report of Internet monitoring group ‘Netblocks’, the period of Internet shutdown in the country has crossed 1000 hours. This is believed to be one of the longest network blackouts in modern digital history.
According to the report, network connectivity in Iran has decreased to only 1 percent since the beginning of March. NetBlocks has shared a graph on the social media platform ‘X’ and said that this shutdown, which started on February 28, has continued till April 10. Due to this situation, the digital access and communication system of the general public has come to a complete standstill.
According to international media reports, geopolitical tensions are responsible for this internet blockage. This ban is believed to have been imposed after the increasing dispute and attacks between America, Israel and Iran. Reports have claimed that thousands of people have lost their lives in these attacks, due to which the government has cut off the internet to stop the spread of information.
Most of the users in Iran can currently use only limited local (domestic) networks. Contact with the outside world has been almost completely cut off. Due to closure of online services, banking, education and exchange of information, common citizens are facing dire situations. Even though more than 40 days have passed, there is no indication as to when the situation will return to normal.
