‘You worship without clothes, you will become a millionaire like me,’ father-in-law did a shameful act due to superstition in Kanpur

A very serious and shocking case has come to light from Kanpur, where a married woman has made serious allegations against her in-laws like harassment, assault and demanding dowry in the name of Tantra-Mantra. After the complaint of the victim, the police have registered the case and started investigation.

Midnight worship and strange rules

According to the victim, the atmosphere in the in-laws’ house changed shortly after the marriage. He told that puja related to Tantra-Mantra used to start in the house after midnight. Mother-in-law and father-in-law claimed that because of this puja the family has gained wealth and success, hence it is necessary to participate in it.

The woman alleges that to participate in this puja, she was told such rules which were unacceptable to her. He protested against this and clearly refused.

The victim says that when she refused to participate in these activities, pressure was put on her. She alleged that her husband and father-in-law forced her and tortured her mentally and physically. Father-in-law said, ‘If you worship without clothes, you will become a millionaire like me.’

The woman also told that she was locked in a room and was misbehaved with. After this he was forcibly included in the puja.

Allegations of assault and mental harassment

According to the complaint, the woman was also beaten up when she protested. He told that he was beaten with slippers and was told that there was some kind of ‘influence’ on him, which needed to be removed. The victim claims that this was not a one-time incident, but it kept happening continuously. This also had a deep impact on his mental health.

Dowry demand increased the problem

The dowry angle has also come to light in the case. The woman alleged that her in-laws demanded her to bring Rs 2 crore and one kilogram of gold. He says that his family had already spent heavily on the wedding, so it was not possible to fulfill this demand.

Serious allegations against husband also

The victim has also accused her husband of not supporting her. She said that when she sought help, her husband did not support her and always took the side of his parents. This made his situation even more difficult.

Returned to her parents’ home and filed a complaint

Troubled by the continuous harassment, the woman returned to her maternal home in January 2025. There she narrated the entire incident to her family, after which the police was contacted. However, the victim alleges that initially there was a delay in filing the FIR and efforts for compromise continued. Later a case was registered.

Police investigation continues

In the FIR registered in Mahila police station, many people including husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law have been made accused. Police officials say that all the allegations are being investigated seriously and further action will be taken based on the evidence.

This case not only highlights domestic violence but also serious social issues like superstition and dowry system. At present the investigation is going on and the truth is waiting to come out.
