According to the report of Cricbuzz, the franchise can announce its new captain for the WPL 2026 season on December 23. Till now, the team under the leadership of former Australian legend Meg Lanning has performed brilliantly, but after her name was not in the retention list, their collaboration ended.

Delhi tried to buy Meg Lanning again in the Women’s Premier League 2026 auction, but UP Warriors signed her for Rs 1.9 crore. After this it became clear that Delhi wanted to bring forward an Indian player for captaincy this time.

Looking at the current situation, there is every possibility of Jemimah Rodrigues being made the new captain of Delhi Capitals. Team co-owner Parth Jindal has also clearly said during the auction that the franchise wants an Indian captain and is completely clear on this decision.

Jemimah Rodrigues is the first purchase of Delhi Capitals and from the beginning she was seen as the future captain. Due to lack of experience in the initial phase, the team expressed confidence in Meg Lanning, but now after three seasons, the management feels that this is the right time for a change of leadership.

Jemima has played 27 matches so far in WPL, in which she has scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 139.66. Recently, he played an important role in India’s victory by scoring a century against Australia in the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2025. Apart from this, his unbeaten half-century (69* runs) in the first T20 against Sri Lanka on Sunday (21 December) also gave an easy victory to Team India. In such a situation, handing over the captaincy to Jemima for Delhi Capitals is being considered a big but well-thought-out decision.
