Jemimah Rodrigues got a big responsibility, Delhi Capitals handed over the command of the team

25-year-old Jemima has recently been a key part of India’s historic ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 win. His brilliant inning of 127 not out in the semi-final against Australia helped India achieve the mammoth target of 339 runs. His ability to perform in big matches made him a strong contender for captaincy.

Jemima has so far played 27 WPL matches for Delhi Capitals, in which she has scored 507 runs at a strike rate of 139.67. She has been a part of the team in the finals of all three seasons of the league so far.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal said that Jemima has been with the team since day one and it was decided that one day she will captain Delhi. Describing the World Cup semi-final innings against Australia as inspirational, he expressed confidence that Jemima will play an important role in helping the team win the title.

On becoming the captain, Jemimah Rodrigues said that it is a matter of pride for her to get the captaincy of Delhi Capitals. He described it as a dream year for himself and his family and said that this team is like family to him.

Jemimah Rodrigues has so far played 113 T20 International matches for India, in which she has scored 2,444 runs at an average of 30.93. During this period, he has recorded 14 half-centuries in his name. Apart from this, she has also represented India in 59 One Day International matches, where she has scored 1,749 runs with the help of 3 centuries and 8 half-centuries.

Delhi Capitals will start their campaign in the Women’s Premier League 2026 with a match against Mumbai Indians in Navi Mumbai on Saturday, January 10.
