India has lost the series at home after 12 years. Whereas this is India's fourth defeat in the WTC cycle. Due to which its PCT has decreased from 68.08 to 62.82. India is now just 0.32 points ahead of Australia. If India loses the next match also then the Indian team's dream of playing the final will become difficult. After this test, India has to play a five-match test series in Australia.

India had earlier won 18 consecutive series and was a strong contender to win all the matches to make it to the finals in the WTC. But now to qualify for the third consecutive WTC final, India will have to win four of its remaining six matches. India now has to play a total of 6 more matches, in which it will have to win at least 4.

After India losing two consecutive matches, the path to the final has opened for almost all the teams. The historic win against India has lifted New Zealand to fourth place with their PCT now at 50 and are back in the race for a place in the finals.

Sri Lanka (PCT 55.56) are placed third while their nine-wicket win against England in the third Test in Rawalpindi has helped Pakistan move up to seventh position with PCT 33.33. England (PCT 40.79) is in sixth place
