The three-match Test series between England and New Zealand has started from June 4. The first match of the series was played at the historic Lord’s ground. England beat New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test match which started on 4th June. England set a target of 253 in the fourth innings against New Zealand, but the Kiwis were bowled out for just 138 in their second innings, leading to defeat. This has also led to a major reshuffle in the ICC World Test Championship points table. Although the victory did not benefit England much, New Zealand dropped from second place to fourth place.

England dominates the Lords

In this match, the batsmen of both the teams faced huge difficulties on the Lord’s pitch. The fast bowlers completely dominated the match. England’s bowlers took full advantage of the home ground conditions and gave New Zealand’s strong batting no chance to survive. England could score only 140 runs in the first innings of this match. However, England’s bowlers restricted New Zealand to 113 runs and helped the team to make a comeback.

England’s second innings witnessed impressive batting. The team scored 226 runs, including a crucial 57 from Emilio Gay. Jamie Smith also contributed 39 runs. Ollie Robinson’s 29 runs helped the team reach this score. England set a target of 253 runs against New Zealand. However, New Zealand were all out for 138 in the first session of the fourth day and England won the match by 115 runs.

WTC Big blow to Kiwi team in points table

Prior to this match, New Zealand were in a strong position at the second position in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) points table. However, after this crushing defeat by England in the Lord’s Test match, the Kiwis have suffered a major setback in the points table and have dropped straight to the fourth position. New Zealand team is at 58.33 with 2 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw from 4 matches. England, on the other hand, were ranked seventh before the start of the series and remain at the same position after the win. Meanwhile, South Africa and Sri Lanka have benefited from the defeat of the Kiwis, South Africa has reached the second position and Sri Lanka has reached the third position.

Indian team ranked sixth

In the WTC 2025-27 scoreboard, Bangladesh is ranked fifth with 58.33 percent, while India is sixth with 48.15 percent. Pakistan is ranked eighth with just 8.33 points from four matches. West Indies are at the bottom with 4.17 per cent, having not won a match in eight matches in this round.
