Land for Jobs Scam : Delhi : Former Chief Minister and former Union Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav (Lalu Prasad Yadav) are once again mired in controversy. in Delhi (Delhi News) Rouse Avenue Court has dealt Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family a major shock in the CBI case related to the land-for-job scam. The court ordered framing of charges against a total of 40 accused including RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, their sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav.

Special judge Vishal Gogane slammed the Yadav family in his land for job scam verdict. Vishal Gogane strongly commented that Lalu Yadav and his family acted as a criminal gang and hatched an elaborate conspiracy to acquire land using government jobs as a bargaining chip. According to the court, there is sufficient prima facie evidence to establish the charges at this stage.

Highlights of the Court’s decision

  • Strict court supervision – Special Judge Vishal Gogane of Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court said that Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family were working as a criminal group in the land case in exchange for employment. According to the court, these were not isolated incidents but a well-planned and widespread conspiracy to acquire wealth for the family using government jobs.
  • Government jobs as a bargaining chip – The court clearly stated in its order that Lalu Prasad Yadav used railway appointments as a bargaining chip. In return, immovable properties and land were acquired in the name of his family members, including his wife, sons and daughters, allegedly at a nominal price.
  • Sufficient cause to establish charge – The Court held that, although a conviction is not necessary at this stage, there is sufficient prima facie evidence from the available evidence to hold that corruption and criminal conspiracy have been hatched. Based on this, the court decided to fix the charges.
  • Under which sections the charges were framed? The court ordered framing of charges against a total of 41 accused under Sections 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, while 52 accused were acquitted for lack of sufficient evidence.
  • Comment on the role of family members? The court accepted that not only Lalu Yadav but also his wife Rabri Devi, sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav and daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav, in whose name the land was transferred, were also involved in the conspiracy.

This case happened between 2004 and 2009

The CBI claims that the conspiracy was hatched between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister. According to the investigative body, in almost all cases, the land was transferred before the assignment and in most cases gifts were prepared. The CBI also said that when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister, his close aide Bhola Yadav visited villages and told people that if they wanted jobs for their family members, they should transfer their land to the Lalu family. Those who transferred their land to the Lalu family claimed that they were given cash in return.
