Yashasvi Jaiswal breaks huge India record, leaves behind Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan

Yashasvi Jaiswal needed just six matches to leave behind the likes of Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. He is the first Indian batter to score two ODI centuries in fewer than seven games. The southpaw completed his second ton in the fifty-over format in the third ODI against Afghanistan on June 20, with his maiden hundred coming against South Africa in December 2025. He was added to the squad as an injury replacement for Virat Kohli, who was ruled out of the series after injuring his hamstring in the IPL 2026 final on May 31.

He opened the batting alongside Rohit Sharma and amassed an unbeaten 110 runs off 86 balls, with 14 fours and three sixes. The previous record holder was Dhawan, who took seven innings to smash two centuries in ODIs, with  Kedar Jadhav (9), Kohli (17) and Shubman Gill (18) behind.

The left-hander played aggressively from the start and didn’t allow the bowlers to settle down. Azmatullah Omarzai’s ordinary bowling in the first over allowed Jaiswal to settle down, and he went for drives and cuts. He dominated the rivals and hit big shots, completing his half-century in 37 balls.

Having given a good start to the team, he didn’t take a risk against Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi. Jaiswal needed 46 more deliveries to complete his second hundred. He hit a six on Nabi’s delivery to reach the milestone.

Yashasvi smashed a six to finish the game, sealing India’s 3-0 series victory.

“I really enjoyed. I got some runs initially in the powerplay, and I tried to keep going and played to the end. I just focus on my process, what is in my control and try to work as hard as I can. The support has been amazing to me, and the communication is unreal. I think I’ve been lucky, so if I get the start, I’ll try to convert.

“As I have seen in cricket, especially when it’s your day, make it count. So I try to do that. I was very determined today that I need to keep my focus and rotate the strike so if I get in, I make it count,” Jaiswal said.

He also lauded Rohit Sharma for helping him.

“Rohit bhaiya is always helpful. I always ask him questions to get help and implement them in the game. Today, when I was facing dot balls, he was telling me just to rotate the strike and keep the intent. I always enjoy being with him and playing with him. Everything is just amazing.”
