Yash’s journey from selling tea to 200 Crore films
The superstar of the South Indian film world who has become an international sensation. Few know that he who was now KGF star Yash used to sell tea at a time and get only 50 rupees in a day.
The films of KGF collectively bagged a whopping 1500 crores. These movies were one among the top-grossing Kannada films. His stardom made him one of the top acting banners in India.
However, Yash’s was not an easy journey for that. It was from the son of a bus driver that his life was filled with hard work and struggle. When he was 16 years old, he kept convincing his parents to leave home with his dreams. He joined Kannada cinema as an assistant director. The project had just ended after two days when he started in Bangalore.
Yash says in an interview, “I ran away from home. When I arrived in Bangalore, the vastness and the environment of the city scared me, but I have always been someone who believes in himself. I had only 300 rupees and I knew that if I went back, my parents wouldn’t allow me to come again.”
Upon reaching Bangalore, Yash joined a theater drama troupe to start his career. He spent most of his time behind the scenes. He earned 50 rupees daily by selling tea and doing other small jobs. During this time, he also went to college and completed his education while honing his skills in theater.
Yash debuted from the TV serial Nanda Gokla, where he met his future wife, Radhika Pandit. In 2007, he debuted in films by playing the lead role in the movie Rocky, which was released in 2008.
Yash’s greatest success was with the romantic comedy film Modala Sala, and then came Kirataka, Mogina Manasu, Drama, Gogali, Mr. & Mrs. Ramchari, and Masterpiece, which made him a successful actor.
In 2018, Yash acted in KGF: Chapter 1, which grossed over 250 crores at the box office and became the highest-grossing film in Kannada cinema.
In 2022, KGF: Chapter 2 broke this record by grossing 1250 crores, making it one of the highest-grossing films in Indian cinema and the only Kannada film to earn over 1000 crores.
KGF gave him international recognition. He was later signed by Nitish Tiwari for a major-budget film, where he will share the screen with Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi. It is considered to be one of the costliest productions from India.
Yash is also one of the producers of this film, and he reportedly earned compensation of around 200 crores for this.
