Year Ender 2025: The year 2025 proved to be very special for Bollywood and Indian cinema. While new films kept trying to make their place at the box office, the re-release of old classic and cult films made the theaters buzz once again. The emotional connection of the audience with the old films was so deep that many such films, which were flops at the time of their first release, proved to be superhits this time.

‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ became the biggest surprise hit

The biggest re-release success of the year was Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane’s film ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’. This tragic romantic film, released in 2016, was able to earn only about Rs 9 crore at the box office at that time. But after its re-release in Valentine’s Week 2025, the film did wonders. It earned around Rs 4.5 crore on the opening day and the total collection reached more than Rs 40 crore. The incomplete love story, emotional scenes and painful romance attracted the audience to the theatre.

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ awakens youth magic again

With the beginning of the new year on January 3, Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ returned to the theaters. The story of friendship, love, travel and dreams once again won the hearts of the audience. The film earned more than Rs 20 crore in re-release.

Cult films were in full swing

‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994) – This cult comedy of Aamir Khan and Salman Khan was re-released in 4K version and once again made the audience roll with laughter.

‘Namaste London’ – On the occasion of Holi, this film of Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif rekindled the sweetness of Indian culture and relationships.

‘Rangeela’ – This film starring Urmila Matondkar, Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff also got a lot of love from the audience.

‘Sholay’ became a tribute to Dharmendra

After the demise of veteran actor Dharmendra, his most iconic film ‘Sholay’ was re-released as a tribute. On December 12, ‘Sholay: The Final Cut’ was released in 4K restored version. This film, which was released on more than 1000 screens, saw packed theaters and the Veeru-Jay pair became immortal once again.

In this wave of re-release, many more films also took the audience to the theatres, including ‘Ghoomar’, ‘Padayappa’, ‘Umrao Jaan’, ‘Dhadkan’, ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar’, ‘Baahubali’, ‘Vicky Donor’, ‘Hunter’, ‘Highway’, ‘Padmavat’, ‘Biwi No. 1’. For romance lovers, ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’, ‘Laila Majnu’, ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ refreshed old memories.

Crime and drama also dominated

The audience who like crime and drama also gave a lot of love to the re-released films. Films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Tumbbad’, ‘Satya’ and ‘Karan Arjun’ once again brought life to the theaters with their powerful content.
