Street-dogs trial
First of all, let us mention those cases or decisions of the year 2025 which remained in the headlines throughout the year till they came out of the doors of the judiciary of the country and reached among the common people. The foremost among such famous cases was the case of street dogs wandering here and there in abandoned condition on the road. In which the Supreme Court immediately decided that the government should make arrangements to collect and keep such abandoned dogs at one place within the prescribed time period. Similarly, lakhs of people and NGOs working for the protection of street animals (dogs) in India came out on the streets.
Former Union Minister and senior woman leader of BJP Maneka Gandhi was also included in the crowd of people who took to the streets. Maneka Gandhi not only raised questions on this decision of the Supreme Court. Rather, he termed this decision as one-sided and directly called it atrocity on the dogs. People who said the Supreme Court’s decision was detrimental to stray dogs, exerted all their might through protests and demonstrations. Neither the government budged nor the Supreme Court made any changes in its decision in this regard. However, the Supreme Court’s decision on this issue got headlines not only in India but also on foreign soil. These headlines were both negative and positive. While some praised the decision of the Supreme Court of India in this case, millions of animal lovers cursed the Supreme Court and the government for this decision.
lamp ignition case
In the year 2025, the case of Tirupparankundram lamp lighting located in Tamil Nadu state of South India also remained in the news at the end of the year. The Madurai bench of Madras High Court (Justice G Jayachandran) had given an important decision on lighting the lamp in the temple situated on the hill. The DMK government of Tamil Nadu reached the Supreme Court against the decision given by this one-member bench on 1 December 2025. Not only this, DMK and its allies reached Parliament demanding impeachment against the judge who gave this decision. So that by any means the permission given by the High Court to burn Karthigai Deepam in this temple can be cancelled. During the hearing of petitions against the decision of a single-member bench of the Madurai High Court, there was an uproar in the court when a lawyer continued to present his views in a loud voice even after the court’s refusal. The two-member bench hearing this (Justice Jayachandran and Justice KK Ramakrishnan) expressed strong displeasure.
Decisions to stop misuse of 498A
As far as the cases heard or famous decisions given in the Supreme Court of the country in the year 2025 are concerned, their list was more than 100. The Supreme Court openly supported the safeguards laid down by the Allahabad High Court regarding the establishment of a Family Welfare Committee to prevent misuse of Section 498A of the IPC in matrimonial disputes. The Supreme Court directed that the guidelines laid down by the Allahabad High Court in cases under this section will be strictly effective and their implementation should be ensured by the authorities to ensure their serious implementation.
The Supreme Court of the country had immediately rejected the petition challenging the rule of the Delhi High Court in which it was said that the issue of barring retired judges of other states from applying for Senior Advocate designation in Delhi was raised. This important petition filed by Vijay Pratap Singh was being heard by a two-member division bench of Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran.
medha patkar case
In the same year (11 August 2025), the Supreme Court had also refused to interfere in the conviction of Narmada Bachao Andolan leader and social activist Medha Patkar. This case against Medha Patkar was filed by the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi in the year 2001. However, the double bench of Justice MM Sundaresh and Justice N Kotishwar Singh canceled the fine of one lakh imposed on Medha Patkar.
In the month of August itself, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court (Justice Sandeep Mehta, Justice NV Anjaria and Justice Vikram Nath) had also stayed the direction in which an order was issued not to release the stray dogs picked up from the National Capital Region of Delhi.
Internal complaints committee definitely not formed
When we talk about legal decisions and orders made or pronounced in the year 2025, it is important to also discuss a petition filed in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Kerala High Court. The Kerala High Court had said that according to the POSH Act 2013, there is no need for political parties to set up an “Internal Complaint Committee” to resolve sexual harassment complaints. A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice AS Chandurkar refused to hear the petition challenging this order of the Kerala High Court.
Objection to bulldozer action
This year, the Supreme Court of the country lodged a strong objection to the blatant misuse of “bulldozer action” and termed it ‘unconstitutional’. Matters like refusal of stay order on Waqf Amendment Act, setting time limit in appointment of civil judges, etc. remained in the Supreme Court.
On the 11th of the first month of the year 2025 (February), the Supreme Court said that it is inappropriate to keep the accused or criminals admitted in the ICU of any hospital tied with handcuffs, rope or chain. At the time of treatment, humanity and dignity of a human being is much higher than his being an accused or a criminal.
Having a house is a fundamental right of every Indian.
On September 12, 2025, the Supreme Court said that it is the fundamental right of every Indian to own a house. For this, the government will have to increase investment in affordable housing schemes. For this, “RERA” should also be simplified. On October 9, 2025, the court, while referring to the 7 years of experience of combining the jobs of advocacy and judge, said that without this, no one should be made a district judge in India. Also, to become a District Judge in the country, it is mandatory to be at least 35 years of age.
Criticism on Aravali Range decision
As the year 2025 moved towards its departure, the Supreme Court of the country also kept becoming famous for its decisions. On 20 November 2025, when the Supreme Court gave its decision regarding the Aravalli Range, it started being criticized across the country. The Supreme Court had said that only those lands or mountains which are 100 meters high from the ground will be included in the Aravalli range. The protest started because due to this decision, 90 percent of Aravalli is being taken out of the security circle. Apart from this, due to the increase in mining in the mountains, the threat to the environment is also increasing.
This is about the important decisions heard in the Supreme Court of the country in the year 2025. In the year 2025 itself, the fourth National Lok Adalat set an even greater record. This record was that 2.59 crore disputes were resolved successfully. Now let us mention those scandals that took place in the courts of the country which made the lawyers, judges and judiciary of the country a “farce”.
Bundles of burnt notes at judge’s house
In this shameful spectacle, the most tarnishing incident of the year on the judicial system of the country was the suspicious recovery of bundles of burnt Rs 500 notes from the official bungalow of Delhi High Court Justice Yashwant Verma on March 14, 2025. These notes were seized by the Delhi Fire Service team when the Delhi Fire Service teams reached Justice Verma’s government bungalow to extinguish the fire that broke out under suspicious circumstances. And they recovered bundles of unburnt notes lying in sacks in abundance. Media reports claimed that this amount was in crores.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla constituted an inquiry committee in that case. On March 22, 2025, Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna formed a three-member committee to conduct an internal investigation into the allegations against Justice Yashwant Verma. This committee also submitted its report to the Chief Justice on 4 May 2025. Justice Yashwant Verma was directly held guilty in the report. On the basis of this report, as soon as Chief Justice of India Justice Sanjiv Khanna recommended the removal of Justice Yashwant Verma under “In House Procedure”, there was an earthquake in the country. Due to this scandal, he vented out his anger on Justice Yashwant Verma openly by calling him a corrupt judge. The result of all this was that a motion for “impeachment” was even moved in the Parliament to remove Justice Yashwant Verma from the judicial service.
In the year 2025, nothing has happened to Justice Yashwant Verma till now in such and such a big tainted case of the Indian Judiciary. But in this turmoil, suddenly one night under very mysterious circumstances the Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned. Till date it is being understood that the Vice President, Justice Yashwant Verma became the victim of the scandal unnecessarily. Justice Yashwant Verma, who had to deal with him, has not yet been dealt with.
shoes in court
The day of 6 October 2025 became the biggest black spot in the history of Indian Judiciary in free and slave India. When lawyer Rakesh Kishore threw a shoe towards Chief Justice BR Gavai in the Supreme Court on the same day. The lawyer Rakesh Kishore, who carried out this shameful incident, was calling himself Sanatani and Justice Gavai was calling himself anti-Sanatan. However, in retaliation for this shameful incident, lawyer Rakesh Kishore was attacked with slippers in Karkardooma Court of Delhi on 9 December 2025, and the back-to-back accounts were settled with him. Justice Yashwant Verma: From the incidents of note seizure scandal, shoe scandal on CJI and attack on lawyer Rakesh Kishore with slippers, it can be said that the year 2025 was also full of corruption and corruption for the judiciary of the country.
When the good and bad activities of the country’s judiciary are being discussed in the year 2025, then in the last days of the year, the Delhi High Court’s decision of suspending the sentence in the rape case of Unnao’s famous gangrape and murder case accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar will also be remembered. CBI is also facing a lot of trouble regarding this. Women in favor of the gangrape victim and against her (in favor of convicted criminal Kuldeep Singh Sengar) are taking to the streets of Delhi and fighting among themselves. Whereas CBI is doing the “drama” of getting pressured by the Supreme Court to get the suspended sentence of Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the rape case revoked.
