Yemen on the verge of partition: South faction STC released its constitution, Saudi Arabia started bombing
Yemen Civil War STC Constitution 2026: The situation in Yemen, which has been suffering from civil war for a decade, has once again become explosive. The United Arab Emirates (UAE)-backed separatist group ‘Southern Transitional Council’ (STC) has given new impetus to the demand for an independent state by issuing a separate constitution for South Yemen. The move has not only increased political instability within Yemen, but also brought to the surface diplomatic differences between Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Yemen, already struggling with extreme poverty and a humanitarian crisis, now appears to be on the brink of a formal partition.
Separate constitution and referendum plan
STC chief Aidarus al-Zubaidi announced in a video message that a new constitution for the South Arabian state is ready. He proposed that this constitution would remain in force for the next two years, after which a formal referendum would be held. During this time the people of South Yemen will decide whether they want an independent country or not. Al-Zubaidi has warned that if his proposal is not accepted, he is fully prepared for military conflict.
Saudi Arabia’s military actions and tensions
Immediately after the announcement of the constitution, Saudi Arabia took a tough stance and started air strikes on STC positions in Hadhramaut province. Saudi Arabia accuses the separatist group of disrupting peace talks and trying to destabilize the internationally recognized government. Saudi-backed forces are trying to retake areas that were captured by STC fighters last month.
Saudi Arabia vs United Arab Emirates
The conflict is now turning into a ‘proxy war’ between Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Is being made. While Saudi Arabia wants to maintain the unity of Yemen, the UAE-backed STC wants to establish its own independent power in the south. The UAE has called for restraint for the time being, but incidents like stopping the Saudi delegation from landing in Aden have further increased the bitterness between the two countries.

Sound of historical division
South Yemen was a separate country from 1967 to 1990 and now STC is claiming to regain that glory. The separatists have tightened their grip on the ground, with control over the city of Aden and the key presidential palace. If a diplomatic solution is not found, this internal disintegration of Yemen could become a major threat to the stability of the entire Middle East.
