Yerin Ha on representation in ‘Bridgerton’
Yerin Ha has opened up about representation and diversity of different cultures on Bridgerton.
The Netflix hit show set in the Regency era Britain has been praised for showcasing different cultures and giving platform to people of colour.
The Australian actress of Korean descent plays Sophie, Benedict’s love interest, in the upcoming season 4.
Interestingly, given Yerin’s East-Asian ties, the book Sophie Beckett has been changed to Sophie Baek.
Speaking of the change with Hits RadioYerin said the conversation was not a “big blown” conversation.
“It is just our existence, it’s the acceptance of our existence in this world and it does not have to be this overcomplicated story.”
The actress said she felt proud to be the face of something so impactful. She added that she is very excited for East-Asian women to see her on screen in the lead role.
Previously, in the Seaon 2, the eldest Bridgerton brother Anthony’s love interest was Kate Sharma, played by Simone Ashley, who is of South Asian descent.
Season 4 will premier on January 29 with first four episodes and later on February 27, remaining four episodes will be released.
