Yes my cameo! Karti Chidambaram said what is happening on the fake currency scene of Dhurandhar
Movie ‘Dhurandhar’ There is a special scene in (Dhurandhar), which has been much talked about. This scene is related to fake currency scam. It is shown in the film that a Union Minister and his son are accused of being involved in this racket. They hand over the printing plates of fake currency notes to Pakistan, that too during an unplanned stopover. In the story of the film, Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza exposes this entire scam. He learns that Pakistan has genuine Indian currency plates, and this work is being done through Major Iqbal (Arjun Rampal).
Hamza gives this information to IB director Ajay Sanyal (R Madhavan). Later it is revealed that this entire network is being run by a company named Khanani & Kalia International (KKI), and it has the support of ISI (Pakistan’s intelligence agency). In the film, Ajay Sanyal says that corruption is so widespread in the country that there is no benefit in informing the people above you. Therefore, they keep this information to themselves and hope that some honest politician will take action on it in the future.
Which way was the audience pointing?
After the release of the film, many people on social media started saying that this scene points towards P. Chidambaram (former Finance Minister) and his son Karti Chidambaram in real life. Because he had also been accused of similar corruption and money laundering earlier, and some old cases related to fake notes have also been in the news. The film is said to be based on “true events”, which further emphasizes these things.
What did Karti Chidambaram say?
Now Karti Chidambaram himself has spoken on this. In an ANI podcast, he was asked whether he had seen ‘Dhurandhar’. He laughingly replied, ‘I haven’t seen it but I have been told that I have a small cameo (role) in it. But the film is in Hindi, and I learned that it is three hours long. So maybe I’ll check it out during one of my many flights. I wish the producer of the film had called me and asked which actor should be chosen for my role. I would definitely give some good suggestions. When he was jokingly asked which actors could play him and his father well, Karthi jokingly said that Pierce Brosnan and Michael Caine should play this role.
What can I do?
Then when asked directly whether the film was talking about the issue of making plates of fake notes, Karthi said seriously, ‘If people mix up truth, lies and WhatsApp forwards, then what can I do? If you really think this happened, shouldn’t the Indian government have any record of it? Can anyone even understand this properly? Unfortunately, because of WhatsApp and Mark Zuckerberg, people are no longer able to differentiate between truth and lie. Everything blends into each other. With the advent of AI, the situation is going to get worse.
about the film
This scene of the film shows a large international network of fake currency, in which Pakistan’s ISI and some alleged Indian helpers are involved. Many viewers linked it to the Chidambaram family, but Karti Chidambaram clearly denied it and said that it is all a mixture of rumours, lies and social media forwards. No names are mentioned in the film, so whether or not it is explicitly based on any specific person remains a matter of debate.
