YMCA set to host inaugural all India kabaddi tournament

The inaugural All India YMCA Kabaddi tournament will be held at the YMCA Multi-Purpose Sports Project ground in Faridabad from October 11 to 13.

A total of 15 teams from across India, including Kerala, Chennai, Uttarakhand, UP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Delhi, will take part in the competition.

Two local teams from Faridabad will also take part in the tournament. The competition will be overseen by qualified officials from Haryana’s District Kabaddi Associations.

Meanwhile, Norris Pritam, chairman of the YMCA Multi-Purpose Sports Project, announced plans to launch a boxing academy at the YMCA complex in partnership with legendary boxer Mary Kom.

The Kabaddi tournament will be held against the backdrop of the suspension of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation by the International Kabaddi Federation.

Due to the suspension, India could not participate in the World Beach Kabaddi Championship.

The AKF has been banned for not holding the elections on time. The AKF is currently headed by an administrator, Justice SP Garg, appointed by the High Court National Sports Code.

Earlier, Vinod Tiwari, president of the International Kabaddi Federation, wrote to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) stating that India would miss a chance to participate in the World Beach Championship due to the lack of clarity on who is running AKFI.
