Yogi government’s water revolution, from waste water to irrigation, big relief to farmers
Shortage of water for irrigation in Uttar Pradesh has been a major challenge for farmers for a long time. To overcome this problem, the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken a visionary and historic initiative. The aim of this scheme is to make Uttar Pradesh the leading state of the country in the field of water security and sustainable development. The government has clearly decided that safe reuse of 50 percent waste water by 2030 and 100 percent by 2035 will be ensured.
Waste water will no longer be a burden, it will become a resource
Under the vision of Yogi government, the thinking of considering waste water as useless is now being changed. The treated waste water will be used for agriculture, industrial uses, municipal functions and non-potable domestic needs. This will reduce dependence on groundwater and strengthen environmental balance. This step will not only save water but will also prove to be a milestone in the direction of better management of water resources.
Step wise roadmap for waste water management
According to Joginder Singh, Project Director, State Clean Ganga Mission, the government has prepared a clear and practical roadmap for waste water management…
First phase (2025–2030): In areas where sewage treatment plants (STP) and water storage systems already exist, a target has been set to reuse 50 percent of waste water.
Second phase (2030–2035): By expanding the capacity in these areas, 100 percent safe use of waste water will be ensured.
Third phase (by 2045): Where there is no system for treatment and storage, a system for using 30 percent, then 50 percent and finally 100 percent waste water will be developed in a phased manner.
Agriculture, environment and economy – all three benefit
The main objective of this policy is to reduce the increasing pressure on water resources, conserve rivers and the environment and promote balanced development in urban and rural areas. Farmers will get an alternative water source for irrigation, which will have a positive impact on crop production. Besides, industries will also get permanent water supply, which will give impetus to economic activities.
Uttar Pradesh will become a model of water management
On the instructions of CM Yogi Adityanath, separate schemes are being prepared for urban, rural and non-drinking use. This initiative linking economic development with water conservation can make Uttar Pradesh a model of water management at the national level. This vision of converting waste water into a resource for development will lay a strong foundation for a safe and sustainable future for future generations.
