You will be able to fill your details in the census yourself, know the easiest way

There is going to be a modern change in the history of the 16th National Census of India. Now you will not need to wait for the census officer to arrive at your doorstep and for a long enquiry. The Central Government has launched a special ‘self-enumeration’ portal for Census 2027, through which citizens will be able to register themselves and their family’s information online.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched four digital tools for this mega-campaign in New Delhi. This will be the world’s largest digital census exercise, which aims to be completely paperless. The government says that this step will make the country’s largest census transparent and technically strong.

What is self-enumeration and how will you get the benefit?

Self-enumeration means that now citizens can fill their family information by visiting the government portal themselves. Earlier, where government employees used to collect data from door to door, now people will be able to do this work themselves through mobile, computer or laptop.

For this, the user will have to log in with his mobile number and fill the answers to the asked questions. After submitting the information, a unique ID (SE ID) will be issued. When the census officer comes home, he will confirm the information on the basis of this ID.

This portal supports 16 languages. Which includes Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.

The entire census process will be done in two phases

This entire process will be completed in two phases. The first phase will run from April 1 to September 30, 2026, in which information related to the condition, facilities and property of the houses will be collected. In this phase, data will be collected at 33 points.

The second phase will take place in February 2027, in which detailed information related to the country’s population will be collected. It will also include data related to age, economic status and, for the first time, caste. The reference date for the census for the entire country has been fixed as March 1, 2027.

The government has approved a budget of more than Rs 11,718 crore for this mega campaign and about 30 lakh officers and employees will be involved in it. The special thing is that this time transgender has also been officially included in the gender category.

Amit Shah launched these digital platforms

Along with the self-enumeration portal, Amit Shah launched three more digital platforms. The first is House Listing Block Creator, which is a web-map app. With its help, officials can determine the boundaries of their respective areas through satellite images. The second is the HLO mobile app, which enumerators will use to collect and upload data in the field. This app also works offline.

The third platform is the Census Management and Monitoring System (CMMS), which works like a central dashboard. Through this, officials can monitor the progress of the census in real time. The HLO app is available on Android and iOS in 16 languages, but to use it, first registration on the CMMS portal is required.
