Girl dies after 72 days of marriage in Delhi, husband arrested; Mother made allegations of harassment and termination of job
Police have arrested her husband Aristotle Sikka in connection with the death of 28-year-old Aakriti Sutar under suspicious circumstances just 72 days after her marriage in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony area. After investigation, the arrests made on Monday were based on allegations related to dowry harassment and dowry death. Police are investigating the matter in detail.
Pressure to leave job and have a child
Aakriti’s mother Anu Sai Sutar alleges that after marriage, her daughter was continuously mentally harassed for leaving her job and having a child soon. He told that Aakriti was taunted even for coming to her parents’ house or talking to her mother on phone. The family alleges that her husband Aristotle, her sister Augustika and other in-laws used to put pressure on her.
There was agreement on continuing the job before marriage.
According to family members, Aakriti had kept a clear condition before marriage that she would continue her job even after marriage, because she wanted to help her younger brother financially. At that time both the families agreed to this condition. But after marriage, when Aakriti tried to start working again, all the household chores were put on her to stop her.
Uncle said – This is not suicide, it is murder
Aakriti’s uncle Mananjay Sutar claimed that his niece was murdered. He says that the girl who was normal and happy with her colleagues in the office till a few hours before the incident, cannot suddenly commit suicide.
The marriage took place after two years of dating
Aakriti and Aristotle were in a relationship for about two years. After this, the marriage took place on 24 April with the consent of both the families. Like the famous Twisha Sharma case of Bhopal, this case is in discussion due to allegations of dowry harassment and marital harassment. At present the police is investigating the case from all aspects.
