YouTube launches sleep timer feature for all users

Washingtonवाशिंगटन: YouTube has announced a series of updates aimed at improving the user experience, based primarily on user feedback. According to GSM Arena, the most notable changes include the introduction of a highly adjustable playback speed and the expansion of the sleep timer feature to all users. YouTube is now allowing users to modify the playback speed in more precise increments of 0.05, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous 0.25 increments. Users can still enjoy videos at up to 2x speed, but this new feature offers a greater level of control for those who want to customize their viewing experience.

Sleep Timer, previously exclusive to Premium subscribers, is now available to all users. This feature enables viewers to set playback to stop after specific intervals: 10, 15, 20, 30, or 45 minutes, or even after an hour. Additionally, users can opt for a timer to end playback when the current video ends, according to GSM Arena. YouTube has also announced improvements for users browsing in landscape mode on iOS devices, which will be rolled out later this year. Additionally, the in-app mini-player has been redesigned, making it resizable and moveable for easier navigation. According to GSM Arena, users will also be able to create collaborative playlists and customize their thumbnails using personal photos or generative AI tools.

In an effort to boost community interaction, YouTube will introduce voting on videos in playlists later this year. The platform is also rolling out badges in the YouTube and YouTube Music apps on mobile, which recognize achievements like becoming an early paying member of a channel or successfully completing a quiz. YouTube is also focusing on improving its television experience, adding a cinematic experience. As GSM Arena reports, users can expect visual enhancements including a new pink color and other subtle design touches aimed at adding dynamism to the platform. When accessing the channel page on a smart TV, videos will automatically play as teasers, allowing viewers to instantly preview the creators' content.
