‘YouTube Moment’: Coldplay’s Chris Martin Falls Into Trapdoor During A Concert In Australia, Video Goes Viral
Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin had a narrow escape during the band’s final show at Marvel Stadium on Sunday when he fell through an open trapdoor on stage. The incident, captured on video, occurred while Martin was engaging with the audience, causing a moment of panic among fans.
In a clip shared on social media, Martin can be seen walking backwards before unexpectedly falling into the trapdoor. Gasps were heard from the crowd as a member of the crew, who was already positioned inside the trap, quickly reached out to cushion his fall.
After regaining his footing, Martin humorously addressed the audience, saying, “That wasn’t planned. Thank you for catching me so much. Thank you guys, holy s***, that was a YouTube moment.” The video, posted by fan Greg Briggs, has since gone viral, highlighting the unexpected nature of the performance.

This incident follows a similar mishap involving pop star Olivia Rodrigo, who fell into a small opening on stage during her concert at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne last month. Rodrigo reassured her fans after the fall, stating, “Oh my God! That was fun, I’m OK! Sometimes there is just a hole in the stage, OK… where was I?”
Coldplay is currently on its international Music of the Spheres World Tour, which began in March 2022. Following their Melbourne performance, the band is set to perform in Sydney before heading to New Zealand. The tour will continue with three scheduled shows in Mumbai, India, in January 2025 and is expected to conclude with a 10-day run at London’s Wembley Stadium in September 2025.
In a recent interview, Martin discussed Coldplay’s ambitious plans to release a total of 12 “proper albums,” with 10 already completed, including their upcoming project, “Moon Music”. He emphasized the importance of setting a limit to maintain high quality in their work, stating, “There’s only 12 and a half Beatles albums… having that limit means that the quality control is so high right now.”
Fans continue to express excitement over Coldplay’s innovative performances and their evolving music, proving that even unexpected moments can become memorable highlights in their concerts.
