YouTube, Netflix or JioHotstar, who earns the most?

The world is becoming digital. Till yesterday we used to go to shops and do shopping. The same shopping is now done online. Similarly, till yesterday we used to go to theaters to watch films but today there are many OTT platforms. But have you ever thought about which one among so many OTT platforms earns the most? There are many OTTs in India but YouTube has the highest earning among them. Even Jio Hotstar and Netflix do not earn as much as YouTube alone earns in India.

The earnings of OTT players are increasing because internet users are continuously increasing in India. It is estimated that OTT is continuously growing, hence their earnings will increase further.

How much does YouTube earn?

YouTube’s earnings in India have increased by 37.7% in one year. According to the report of Exchange for Media, YouTube’s revenue in 2024-25 was Rs 14,300 crore, which is 37.7% more than in 2023-24.

YouTube’s biggest source of income is advertising. YouTube had earned Rs 12,425 crore from advertising. That is, about 87 percent of YouTube’s earnings were from advertising.

YouTube’s earnings are highest because it is accessible to everyone. Apart from this, no subscription is required to use YouTube.

What is the condition of other OTTs?

Jio Cinema is at second place in terms of highest earning. Before the merger with Disney+Hotstar, Jio Cinema’s earnings were Rs 8,835 crore. In this, Rs 7,530 crore was earned from advertising. Like YouTube, Jio Cinema was also free for Jio users, which increased its earnings.

At third place is Disney + Hotstar, whose total revenue in 2024-25 was Rs 2,750 crore. Of this, revenue of Rs 1,520 crore came from advertising.

If we look at the total revenue of Jio and Hotstar, it is Rs 11,585 crore. Jio Hotstar is at second place in terms of highest earning.

And what is the condition of Netflix?

Like other OTTs, Netflix does not run on advertising. It runs entirely on subscription. Its one month subscription comes for Rs 199.

Netflix’s earnings are 5 times less than YouTube. Netflix’s earnings in 2024-25 were Rs 2,900 crore. Netflix’s share in India’s OTT market is 7.6%.

Amazon’s MX Player has also emerged rapidly in the OTT market in recent years. MX Player is completely advertising based OTT. It has about 25 crore users. MX Player’s total revenue in 2024-25 was Rs 1,200 crore. Whereas, Sony Liv had earned Rs 1,100 crore and ZEE5 had earned Rs 1,037 crore.
