Zach Edey says injuries limited his season
Speaking publicly for the first time since December, Grizzlies center Zach Edey said he was encouraged by his play in 11 games, stating he “showed who I can be,” per Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal.
He averaged 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 25.8 minutes while Memphis went 7-4, though he admitted injuries made the season feel “wasted.”
“Every game it kind of got a little worse,” he said of his left ankle injury, which eventually required a second surgery after last June’s initial procedure. “My first few games, I didn’t feel it at all. Then I may have pushed it too much … Toward the end of that stretch, it started giving me problems.”
Edey also had a minor elbow procedure in March, downplaying it as “just a little clean-up” for a lingering issue.
“Just a little clean-up,” he said. “I’ve had some problems with my elbow since middle school. I played through it for a while. I figured I might as well just get it cleaned up while I have this boot on my foot.”
Meanwhile, Santi Aldama, Jaylen Wells, and Scotty Pippen Jr. also shared recovery updates, with all three expected to be healthy in time for training camp.
