Zaheer Abbas hails Jasprit Bumrah, compares him to Waqar and Wasim
When jasprit bumrah runs in to bowl, his presence alone sends shivers down the spine of the best batters. With his signature action and lethal yorkers, the Indian pace ace has mesmerised fans worldwide while instilling fear in opposing teams. In India’s T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, Bumrah was almost unplayable, finishing with brilliant figures of 4 wickets for just 15 runs in his four overs.
Bumrah’s dominance comes from a perfect mix of speed, precision, and cunning, making him a top threat across all formats and conditions. Reflecting on his beginnings, Bumrah once revealed that his inspiration came from watching Pakistan legends Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram on television.
After his stellar display in Ahmedabad, Pakistan cricketing icon Zaheer Abbas, widely regarded as “Asia’s Bradman,” praised Bumrah’s performance.
“India performed like true champions. They were destined to lift this trophy, and now they’ve won it three times. My congratulations to the team, they fully earned this victory,” the 78-year-old said in an exclusive conversation with Sports Now.
When asked about the key performers, he praised both the batters and bowlers. “Sanju Samson was outstanding at the top of the order. Scoring over 80 in three consecutive matches is simply remarkable. And then there’s Jasprit Bumrah—what can I say? He is a truly exceptional talent. Overall, the team’s performance was outstanding, top-class all around.”
Abbas highlighted India’s overall dominance in the tournament while specifically noting Bumrah’s brilliance, drawing comparisons with the legendary Pakistani fast bowlers who inspired him.
“Jasprit Bumrah reminds me of a blend of Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram. Undoubtedly, he is among the finest bowlers India has ever produced. His yorkers, speed, and knack for swinging the ball at critical moments are exceptional. With this performance, he has almost single-handedly led his team to World Cup glory,” he mentioned.
