‘Zimbabwe factor’ contributed in India becoming world champion

India won the title of T20 World Cup 2026

Ahmedabad: Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, the Indian cricket team has achieved a new achievement by winning the title of T20 World Cup 2026. India succeeded in defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this win, India has become the first men’s team to win the T20 World Cup for the second consecutive time. Two key players played important roles for India in this final. Sanju Samson performed brilliantly in batting, while in bowling, Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal bowling did not allow New Zealand to face the batting challenge.

India’s performance in the final match

Batting first, India scored a huge score of 255 runs losing 5 wickets in 20 overs. Opener Sanju Samson kept his team’s momentum going by scoring 89 runs in 46 balls, which included 8 sixes and 5 fours. Thanks to Samson’s aggressive batting, India set a big target for New Zealand. Apart from Sanju, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Shivam Dubey also played impressive innings. Sanju Samson was awarded the title of ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his excellent performance.

New Zealand’s failure

The New Zealand team, which came out to chase the challenging target of 256 runs, could not stand in front of the Indian bowlers. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah in his incredible performance took 4 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. His precise line and length kept the New Zealand batsmen under constant pressure. Bumrah was chosen ‘Player of the Match’ for his contribution. Along with him, Akshar Patel also took three wickets.

interesting coincidence

Along with this unique success of India, an interesting coincidence has also come to light, which is being called ‘Zimbabwe Factor’. According to statistics, whenever Zimbabwe has defeated Australia in an ICC tournament, India has won the World Cup that year. Zimbabwe defeated Australia in the 1983 ODI World Cup, after which India won the title by defeating West Indies in the final. Similarly, the same thing happened in 2007, and this coincidence was seen again in 2026. This time Zimbabwe created a big upset by defeating Australia in the group stage.

India reaching the top for the third time

India has created a new history by winning the T20 title for the third time with this World Cup. Earlier, India had also won this title in 2007 and 2024. In 2007, under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India won the first T20 World Cup, while in 2024, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the team won the second title. Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma were also present as spectators in this final match, who have been important in the development of Indian cricket. This spectacular victory of India has also reduced the pain of the defeat suffered in the ODI World Cup final on the same ground three years ago.
